Who we are

The Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ are a Roman Catholic community of women religious, founded in Brazil in 2001 by Fr. Gilson Sobreiro and Sr. Servant as a response to the cry of the poor in the world today.

Our life is centered on Jesus Christ, prayer, life in community, evangelization, and love for the poor in their multiple faces. We serve our brothers and sisters experiencing material poverty, homelessness, addiction, loneliness, and spiritual poverty.

By fully embracing Jesus' life, we also fully embrace His mission: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor…” (Luke 4:18).

The poor in their multiple faces are the recipients of the mission of the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ. We serve our brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness, material and spiritual poverty, addiction, incarceration, and other difficult circumstances. Through our ministries, we seek not only to meet material needs but also to remind people of their inherent dignity by offering compassion, friendship, and most importantly the very Christ who is within us.
