Discernment

When a candidate shows interest in the religious life, she will start what is called Vocation Discernment. This initial process may take anywhere from 6 months to a year. The candidate will be guided by the local vocation director. This process includes formations, online or presential, meetings with the vocations director, and visits to the different mission houses around the U.S. and Canada.

Formandee

After the candidate is confident about pursuing religious life, she will start her first formation step, going to an Aspirant house. The entrance date is February 7, the feast of the Holy Wounds. The Candidate will be call a formandee and will receive formation, participating in the community's daily life of prayer and work.

Aspirancy

After the first six months as a formandee, she begins the second step in the formation: Aspirancy. For the next six months, she will continue her formation process as an Aspirant, learning more about the Charism of the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ.

Postulancy

The candidate, after a year immersed in community, advances to the third step of her formation process and becomes a postulant. During her postulancy, she will reside in the Postulancy House, engaging with various ministries and sisters. Throughout the year, she will undergo deeper formation and take on new responsibilities at the mission house, enriching her journey and commitment to community.

Canonical Novitiate

By the end of the postulancy, the candidate asks to be accepted into our novitiate in Brazil. The novitiate is a year of intense formation, preparing the novices to take their first vows. The religious sister will travel to Brazil and spend this year in a more reclusive manner, focusing on her formation rather than missionary work. The church refers to it as the canonical year.

Apostolic Novitiate

The Apostolic year marks an important stage in the novitiate journey. During this year, novice sisters are sent to Apostolic Novitiate in North America, where they will actively engage in missionary work. This hands-on experience allows them apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their formation process, deepening their faith and commitment before taking their first vows. It is a meaningful opportunity for growth and in the community.

Profession of Vows

At the end of her apostolic year, the novice goes back to the novitiate to prepare herself to profess her simple vows. The vows of Poverty, Chastity, Obedience, and Availability are accepted by our Foundress, Sr. Servant of the Hidden Wounds of the Crucified, and a Bishop.

Perpetual Profession

By means of Perpetual Profession, the religious commits herself to live in total surrender of her whole being to God according to the way of life indicated in the Constitutions. After 6 years of simple vows, the religious sister is invited to make her perpetual vows in our Community.
