DISCERNMENT

Only love can make us all His.

“In love there can be no fear, but fear is driven out by perfect love.” (1 John 4:18)

A vocation is all about love. Each vocation begins with God's love for you. When you have an encounter with the love of God, you will discover He is calling you to a particular form of life. The same love then enables you to respond generously to His call. God, who has made a total gift of Himself to you, is inviting you to give yourself as a free and total gift to Him.

Visiting a community of sisters can be a helpful step in discerning your vocation. We invite you to reach out to our Mission House closest to you. This will put you in contact with our local Vocational Directress. Through conversations with this sister, she can accompany you as you take steps in discerning your vocation. She can also help you plan a visit so you can meet our Community, get to know our Charism better, and so we can get to know you!

REQUIREMENTS

Every vocation is unique, but there are some basic requirements for women who are discerning a religious vocation with our community.

Age: Generally 18 to 35 years old; up to 40 may be considered in some cases.

Health: Sound physical, mental, and emotional health.

Faith: Fidelity to the Holy Father and the Catholic Church.

Docility: A willingness to learn, grow, and be taught.

Community life: The ability to live peacefully with others in a multicultural community and openness to learning other languages.

Simplicity: A desire to embrace a simple way of life.

Conversion: A willingness to embrace ongoing conversion and growth in holiness.

Holy Spirit: Openness to the gifts and action of the Holy Spirit.

Love for the poor: A disposition and ability to be with and serve those who are most in need, especially the poor.

Vocational accompaniment

Each one of our Mission Houses has a designated Vocation Directress. The role of this sister is to accompany individuals on the journey of discerning if our Community and Charism is the place the Lord is calling them to love and be loved entirely by Him. In our community, each mission house has a sister designated for this service.

Above all, their role is one of fervent prayer, inspired by the urgent invitation of Jesus who said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).
